Zoning Applications and Title Plans Regulation Panel

22_10_2011_Kocaeli_PanelOn Saturday 22 October 2011, the HKMO Kocaeli Regional Representative Office organised a panel titled “Zoning Applications and the Title Plans Regulation”. At this panel, which I also attended, the principles in the current bylaw and regulation, as well as the problems experienced and mistakes made in practice, were discussed. In particular, the problems experienced between municipalities and land registry and cadastre offices were emphasised. I believe the panel, attended by employees of both the private and public sectors, was very useful.

I would like to thank the HKMO Kocaeli Regional Representative Office, which organised the panel, and all the participants.

A Rival to GPS: Galileo!

Europe has taken its first step towards breaking its dependence on the USA in global positioning systems.
Europe, which has so far used the American-controlled GPS system, today launched into space the first Galileo satellites, which it hopes will replace it. The Russian Soyuz rocket carrying two Galileo satellites lifted off from the base in French Guiana. The IOV-1 PFM and FM2 satellites, to be placed in orbit 23,000 kilometres above the Earth, had been expected to launch yesterday, but the launch was postponed for technical reasons. The European Union hopes that the Galileo system will be able to determine the location of objects on Earth from space with a margin of error of one metre.

Kocaman Android v.1.0

KocamanAndroidMy mobile app, which I first developed for computers and then adapted to the Windows Phone 7 platform, can now also be used on mobile phones running the Android operating system. The fact that Windows Phone 7 has still not come to Turkey and that its app marketplace has not been opened to Turkish developers finally forced me to develop apps on the Android platform. To be honest, I still cannot understand why Microsoft remains so indifferent to Turkey even though Windows Phone 7 has been on the market for almost a year. Anyway, as a result, on this occasion we have started developing apps for Android operating systems, easing into the Java programming language as well.

Graduation and the KTÜ Kanuni Campus

kepOn 23.06.2011 I finally graduated from the Department of Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KTÜ (Karadeniz Technical University). Looking back at the 5 years I spent at KTÜ, I see that what I lost is so small compared to what I gained that, far from having the slightest regret, I am on the contrary proud of myself for my choice.

Recently I noticed that many visitors to my website reach it by typing terms such as “KTÜ Kanuni Campus” and “KTÜ Map” into search engines, and get an idea by looking at the cartoon map of KTÜ that I shared earlier. I believe this comes from the curiosity of students who will be choosing their universities this year. That is why I am writing this post, to at least partly satisfy their curiosity about KTÜ and KTÜ Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering (now called KTÜ Surveying Engineering).

In terms of its grounds, I can say that KTÜ Kanuni Campus is the best campus I have seen so far, both for its greenery and for its layout. The KYK dormitories being on campus, together with the social facilities on campus, give students great advantages. I can say this: I remember times during my student life when I spent months without leaving the campus at all. Looking back, I see that in my mind the most beautiful place in Trabzon is the university campus, and the best times are those I spent on this campus with my very dear friends, each of whom has a special place in my heart.
