Another year has passed, with health, happiness, joy, sorrow, delight, sadness, gains and losses. Although the coming of the new year brings new hopes with it, the end of a whole year is just as bittersweet. I hope that when we look back, the useful things we gained outweigh the time we lost. Wishing everyone the very best in this new year, Happy New Year to all.
As is well known, Microsoft has developed its Windows Mobile operating system technology and has finally released Windows Phone 7. Reportedly, Microsoft has spent a great deal on promoting the Kinect and WP 7 technologies. Although there are no WP 7-compatible smartphones in Turkey yet, worldwide interest in this operating system is great. With WP 7, which offers developers great opportunities, you can easily develop new applications. With this in mind, both as a trial and as a first step into WP 7, I redesigned for WP 7 my Kocaman program, which I had developed earlier for Windows operating systems. With Kocaman WP 7, just as with Kocaman, you can calculate the distance differences between two points with known coordinates and the bearing angles in grads, degrees and radians. I also prepared the program in English so that it can be used internationally. Considering how easy it is to use, I don’t think the program being in English will be a problem for anyone.
I believe that in the near future smartphones will be of much more benefit to us surveyors than they are now. In this context, I have decided to direct my work somewhat towards this concept and to make our work as surveyors a little easier by developing mobile applications. Over time, as I develop new WP 7-compatible programs, I will try to publish them. For now, we cannot install apps directly on WP 7, so I first need to publish the apps I have prepared through the Microsoft Marketplace. Once I overcome this problem, I will start preparing new ideas and applications.
Thanks to the Kinect device Microsoft designed for the Xbox, it is now possible to play games that respond to our movements and to control the Xbox from where we sit using only our voice and movements, without a controller. With this creative innovation from Microsoft, which I consider the technology of the future and also greatly admire, the management of both games and media content gains a new dimension, and competition in the sector looks set to heat up even more.
